Results of 2024 HRR AGM
The AGM of Hampshire Rugby Referees Ltd took place at 7.30pm on Monday, 29 April at Winchester Rugby Club.
The meeting featured updates on HRR Finances (Richard Showan, HRR Treasurer), Appointments (Mark Scoular, Appointments Secretary) and Development (John Holden, Development) as well as a presentation from our Sponsors, Protect and Prepare, and the Chair’s message from Tim Bailey, giving his thoughts on the 2023/24 season.
The results of Election of Directors to the Committee are as follows:
Chair: Tim Bailey (reappointed)
Secretary: Zach Kinnaird
Treasurer: Richard Showan (reappointed)
Appointments: Mark Scoular (reappointed)
Development Officer: Dean Crossley (reappointed)
The AGM also gave an opportunity to present awards for the 2023/24 season. The winner of the Best Newcomer award was Danny Radford. Speaking on Danny, Tim said “We may have stretched the word Newcomer a little this year as this referee has been around for a couple of years. He has turned into one of our most prolific referees in terms of games refereed and is always ready to help out. I saw the other weekend he did a game Friday, Saturday & Sunday. He is always looking to improve and I have had several developmental chats which are well received. I will look for him to continue his refereeing in the coming seasons.”
Winner of Referee of the Year was Simon Harris. Presenting Simon with his award, Tim said “Referee of the year has a wide remit and should not be just for our best referee although at times that will be a factor. Simon has been around for eight years, it can be said that he has not charged through the grades but what he has done is provide outstanding services to our clubs. He never complains, completes his availability, confirms matches and is absolutely reliable. He is the epitome of what we want a Hampshire Referee to be. This will come as a surprise to him because he is so unassuming.“
Lastly, the “Topman” award for Society Member of the Year was awarded to John Holden. Speaking ahead of presenting John with his award, Tim said “John has been around Hampshire Rugby for a long time as a referee and advisor but it is the unseen work that I want to bring to your attention tonight. You will have seen the development stats presented to you this evening and this is a result of his work. John has not only been a stalwart of Hampshire Referees but also an integral part of Petersfield Rugby Club. I have already spoken to him about how we can improve the development of newer referees and I am sure that he has some ideas to take forward. For his unsung work over lots of years, John Holden is Hampshire Rugby Referees Topman 2024″
Congratulations to all those elected, and to our three well-deserved award winners!
