A Graduate of Loughborough College, Terry played for Leicester Tigers, Northampton Saints, Hampshire and East Midlands before coaching Northampton Trinity and Northampton Saints. In 1990 he was appointed as one of the first full time Directors of Rugby at Newbury RFC guiding them to the National Leagues and overseeing the move to their new ground at Monks Lane. Terry joined the RFU as Director of Twickenham Services in 1997, as part of a new professional directorate, and subsequently had responsibility for RFU Community Rugby and Operations, serving on several of the RFU Committees with responsibility for game, coaching and match official development. Terry, was a founding Trustee of the Rugby Football Foundation and actively involved in key Governance issues for Anti-Doping, Laws, Player Safety and Competitions Management. He was a Director on ERC Board, Chairman of ERC Referee Committee, Chairman of Churchill Cup, FIRA/AER Representative as well as serving on various World Rugby/IRB working parties that introduced the World Sevens Series, the Under 20 RWC and the Global Structured Season. As Tournament and Competitions Director he worked closely with Premier Rugby and the Community Game to develop our competitions structure and had responsibility for the RFU successful tender for RWC2015. Terry retired from the RFU in 2011 and started refereeing again with Berkshire and Hampshire Referees Societies. He is Re-appointments Secretary of Hampshire Rugby Referees and is a qualified Match Observer/Adviser, a role that enables him to spend valued time with volunteers and match officials in clubs, schools and colleges throughout Hampshire.
